Shadow Priests in 4.3! The official Ass guide!

Gearing from 80-84 should be looked at in a simple perspective Hit - Mastery - Haste (Int is PRIMARY)
Hit is gained by actual hit rating, or spirit - Spirit gives you MORE hit rating per point than Hit does --- If you have gear with Haste and Hit - Reforge the Hit into spirit to increase faster. At the lower levels Mastery gives you more of a boost overall than Haste by a small factor.



With current formulas, Reforging has some play in it. Stat priorities are going to be Int - spirit(hit rating) - Haste - Mastery(Crit will just be there on gear most of the time) If you need hit rating, be sure to reforge to spirit and not hit, hit is something like 0.8/1 and spirit is a solid 1/1. Always be hit capped, it isn't hard to do, and try to reforge so that you aren't too much over so you aren't wasting stats. Gems should be socket bonus colors, never waste a bonus, use reckless for yellow, brilliant for red, and the purple int/spi for blue. Haste is your major stat for your dots, and NEVER think there is a plateu! ITS NOT REAL
Always have inner Fire and Vampiric Embrace on!



General Rotation ----

Spells in () are to be combo spells, as in at the end of first spell, IMMEDIATELY have the next spell rolling in.

(Vampiric Touch - Shadow word: Pain) (Mind Blast - Devourering Plague) SPAM Mind flay
----I choose to add Mind blast in in order to start off replenishment, which is a 100% uptime if you keep up your rotations and dot management. ----
Mind Flay will keep SW: Pain on the target if Specced and Glyphed properly (feel free to look up Ayeheelyuu on the armory for spec and glyphing for optimal PVE)

Always have mind flay going if nothing else is cast -
As your Vamp. Touch has 3 seconds left on ticks, re use it followed by a (Mind Blast - Devouring Plague)

Afterwards keep Flaying away! If you have 3 shadow orbs ( Mind Blast will glow ) Use it no matter what, also as long as you have orbs be sure that your Empowered Shadow never runs out, even if it isnt 3 orbs you still get the full mastery benefit.

Empowering shadow is basically Shadow Weaving from the older days

ALWAYS use your shadowfiend when it's CD is up, your critical Flays will lower the CD by 5 seconds per crit (spec or glyph thing)

I generally save my Dark Archangel for RIGHT before a 3 orb Mind Blast as it will basically make your mind blast do a double-triple damage hit. But when raiding use it on CD followed by mind flays to get your 5 stacks back up.

I am sure i left something out, so feel free to ask questions.

Lately Aye is getting a little more geared, I am most likely going to be on for wednesdays a few times a month since my contract is up with BASF/Fina and I have gotten bored with the local clubs for my social life.

In fights where you need to nuke fast and hard, and mana is not an issue follow this simple ruling. ---

Mind flay till Dark Archangel lights up, hit it and Spike - Spike - (Spike - BLAST) Followed by Spike - Spike - Spike - (Spike - Blast) As your Haste changes, you may need to go one more spike on 2nd and on rotations. Though it's not as powerful for an enemy that you are going to do an average of 300k+ to, for those just use your normal rotation.



AOE FIGHTS!

If you don't have the dagger/offhand combo, it's not as much damage, but if you do then its about 30% more damage overall for a good length AoE pull. (AoE pulls are 5 or more mobs, 4 or less use the same ideal, but focus on the main target with mind flay, or rotate targets with mindflay to keep Pain up)

First off, get Vamp and Pain on all targets, mind flay and get to 5 stacks, Mind blast for shadow power, then Mind Sear. If the targets dont have a ton of health, just mind flay, get stacks up, hope for shadow orbs, Mind Blast, then sear. Sear is STILL the highest overall damaging AoE spell, but it takes a little setup to prep.



This guide is updated for the current - 4.3.3 - patch and standings. This is the sequence and gearing that I choose, but feel free to do however you wish.


As for actual reforges based on given stats, there are a LOT of gears with JUST crit and spirit on them, get rid of crit and make it into haste, as stated earlier - there is NO plateu. at 26% haste I do 21k, at 31% (sulf buffed) I do 23k, with DI (makes me at 34%) I do 25k and with timewarp I do about 33-36k at a 384 Ilvl! my trinkets are REALLY holding me back, so I may bring aye in for regular bosses on our tuesday/thursday team, I will be willing to swap back and forth between ash and aye as needed, but the only thing Ash needs now is a trink off of spine and the dagger from madness. I at least have the trink from LFR so I am not too worried about it right now.

Cool! Thanks for taking the time to do this Ass. I have 4 pieces of shadow gear now. I'll practice rotations and see what I can do.

OH! And it's official, I had 7 people call me an ass yesterday in trade because I wouldnt take 360-370 ilvl people into a BH run, lol. Ass fits me so well XD
